Rhemy, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier at 3 years old. "Rhemy is our only pet and we live in a downtown condo in Kansas City. She does really well here. She goes out on a schedule for walks, 7 a.m., 11 a.m., then again at 4:30 p.m. and sometimes again around 9 p.m.. She is a great dog for this living situation, as she seldom barks. She will bark to announce someone at the door, but there is never needless barking, which I'm sure my neighbors appreciate. Rhemy is a very affectionate loving little girl. She is very smart and watches the numbers in the elevator and knows which floor is hers to go home. It is so cute she will sit and watch until we get to 11 then she will get up and go. It makes several stops, so I'm convinced she's just a genius.. LOL She does not require a ton of exercise, but she does run and play in the long hallway on the way in and out, but for the most part when she's home she lays down and relaxes. It's funny that she lays there, but she does not sleep. she just watches what's going on, looks out the window or watches television. She is really easy to take care of in that aspect. The most difficult issue with her is her coat. Rhemy has long luxurious blonde hair. It does require combing and brushing daily to keep from getting matted. I tried to shave her once and she looked like a deer. So that didn't work out at all. She was a little naked girl, so if that thought crosses your mind let it go, Bad Idea!! Just keep them brushed and trim out the knots and it is easier to just do it quickly each day. She loves the attention, but doesn't like her front paws done. I would highly recommend that anyone thinking about getting a Wheaten have plenty of time to spend with her or him as with any pet. Dedicate the time to keep your Wheaten combed and well kept. They don't shed like a normal dog, more like a person little by little, so comb out any loose hair and they will stay matt free and looking good. Be strong the "alpha dog" or they WILL take advantage and take charge. Don't be mean, just say what you mean and consistently enforce what the rules are. She caught on very quickly. She's good with kids and other dogs."
